Hindi Translation

    As part of the assignment given by Prof Swami  Manohar we have to translate a page from  w3c and host the san\me back on to the w3c web site.

This task involves the following tasks.

a.    Download and Install a Unicode Text Editor.

b.    Locating the desired Fonts.

c.    Select the page to be translated.

d.    Translating the page.

e.    Putting the page on the w3c site.

    The Unicode text editor used is Yudit. This editor gives us the option of creating the translation using both the keyboard map and the phonetic method of typing. The editor is available as a rpm thus installation is easy but remember root privileges are required on the target machine. So to Install the Unicode editor the steps are ,

        Download the yudit-2.7.6-1.i386.rpm from http://www.yudit.org/downloads/binary.

        Change to root (su).

        Install the rpm by giving the command 

                            rpm -i yudit-2.7.6-1.i386.rpm 

    Now the edito can be invoked by giving the command 

        $> yudit

    Next the fonts for the desired language have to be downloaded. Since we selected hindi translation so the recommended font is  raghu.ttf  . This font can be downloaded from the yudit site.

    To  install the font copy the font in the directory yudit/fonts . The font is automatically recognized and displayed as Devanagri script.

    Now we can start the translation and to view the same in a browser select UTF-8 Encoding in Internet Explorer or install the same raghu.ttf font for opera / mozilla browsers.

    The Page selected for translation is Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Home Page.htm The reason for doing so was the fact that this was the page that had been translated in various languages except hindi so to complete the spectrum this was THE choice.

    The result of translation can be seen on line.
